Welcome to Teach Solais LGBT+ Resource Centre, the first of its kind in the West of Ireland!
What is Teach Solais?
Teach Solais LGBT+ Resource Centre is at No.1 Victoria Place, just off Eyre Sq. This City Centre location is a hub of activity, hosting a wide variety of events open to the public. It is also a focal point for delivery of education, training and health programmes in addition to support for individuals identifying as LGBT+ and for those who are ‘coming out’.
Teach Solais is a cenre for the community run by the community, all the existing and new LGBT+ peer support groups have access to the resource centre, for example it is regularly used by, LGBT Helpline; AMACH!; G.O.S.S.I.P., shOUT!, LGBT Parents Support Group and Silver Rainbows.
A development plan is in place with our partners in the LGBT Inter-agency Working Group to address the identified gaps between the LGBT community and a variety of service providers. The centre is a safe accessible environment to combat the effects of isolation, homophobia and transphobia on the overall health and well–being for LGBT+ people and their families.
Teach Solais is open as a drop-in location for the LGBT+ community, the wider community and those visiting our City. The centre is open as a drop-in on Saturday’s from 2pm-4pm, were hoping to extend these hours in the near future.
A list of services and supports including training, education, health promotion, self–development and community development projects will be available.These will be provided by members of Inter-agency Working Group which includes but is not limited to: Galway Roscommon Education & Training Board; West Training and Development; AIDS West; Western Regional Drugs Task Force; HSE – Health Promotion; HSE – Suicide Prevention; Mental Health Ireland; Jigsaw;
